Oh my gosh, my stupid construction in the background. You totally rocka for editting this episode, Andy! I recently rewatched School Reunion and thought the Krillitanes were more interesting and scary...I think the first time I was so "OMG It's Giles from Buffy!" and "OMG K-9 and Sarah Jane!" that I wasn't paying too much attention at the big bat-like scary things. Scary aliens are fun.

I'm going to have to say that of all the ones I've actually seen this season/series, I found the Clockwork droids the most frightening, simply because there was absolutely no emotion behind their motivation. It was all simply drone work, filling in gaps with whatever was at hand. The complete absence of malice was what was scariest, the fact that their programming suggested that the disguises they donned would be the least conspicuous for the setting despite their genuinely frightening countenances and the knowledge that someone had programmed them to carry out their functions to the expense of living beings; but what scared me most is the distinct possibility that this ship and its droids were actually the work of The Doctor at some future point, as a monument to the love he felt for Renette, was what really chilled me. The way he marveled at their craftsmanship and beauty, the fact that the ship had any propensity at all for time travel, and that it was named The Madame du Pompadour, all led me to think it was the last mad act of a future, dying and demented Doctor. That was what scared me about those Clockwork droids.
